It was a cold Christmas day for Beth's birthday. She looked at herself in the mirror of her bedroom table and could barely believe it! 58!

She was 58 years old! And she had seen so much in her life. She had lived through the last war, the great war, had been there, right there on the Samarian plains and seen her beloved cody die.

Next to her mirror, she glanced at the picture of her and cody, in the mountains and forests of her childhood, in happier times.

39 years had passed since that picture was taken, when they were both on the cusp of adulthood, now, all gone. Just memories now.

she ruminated as she stared into the mirror looking at her 58 year old self. History becomes memory. All that there was of the relationship was the picture.

Well, she was 58 years old, she adjusted her wedding ring and examined her hands. she noticed traces of her former jet black hair in a midst of grey hair

"Still, Patrick will be here later on and we will have such a lovely day"

She brushed her hair and smiled at herself in the way she looked in the mirror.

She knew she was old, but in a nice, happy way. Glad to be at this age. Glad to be 58 and glad to have friends nearby.

She thought often of her birthdays in Alabama.
